School Visits — deborah zemke children's book illustrator/author

I love talking to students about words and pictures and the stories you can tell. My programs focus on how to make pictures you can read and words you can see. Students will visualize, verbalize, make pictures out of letters and stories out of pictures. Sometimes the kids will turn themselves into pictures. Everybody will receive a magic tool for making stories and a fun look at what it takes to make a book.

Programs:

Picturing Words, Writing Pictures programs are geared to grades 1-2 or 3-5 in groups of 125 or less. For a full day school visit this could be combined with a shorter kindergarten program based on the book, Cock-A-Doodle Oops.

My Life in Pictures classroom workshops are opportunities for students to brainstorm, storyboard, and create a short accordion book. Inspired by Bea Garcia: My Life in Pictures, we explore developing character and using pictures to write words.

A is for Author, a fast, fun look at creating children's books from A to Z is for older kids and adults, and can be tailored as a one-hour presentation or longer workshop format.
